2009, founded as UberCab.com by 2 friends Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick.

Initial Stages:

UberCab was always thought of as an app as it is now, which means it wasn't transformed from a conventional Taxi service like we had before.
First Launch: UberCab's beta was launched in San Francisco in 2011. It was a black luxury car, which was 1.5x pricier more than a taxi.
in 2012, Uber hired several other employees to make their business model more clear

Entry into India:

Uber took it's first steps in India in 2013, when Ola was already 3 years into the huge market.

Tough Times:

While Ola was concentrating global expansion and acquisitions, Uber has been firming up its technological backbone.

Current Scenario:

While Uber continues to provide various services, it also sold it's entire UberEats to Zomato on Jan 22nd, 2020.
